Trendy Tuesday: DJ/Reception Music

Happy Trendy Tuesday! This week we are exploring everything music!! What is trending with song selection and dances? Split Second Sound has provided some wonderful trends and even tips for all you music lovers!

- Trend #1: Not all weddings are super traditional anymore.
There are many different ways to order your scheduled highlighted events and some of the formalities are even being cut out completely.  We are seeing that weddings are becoming more laid back.

- Trend #2: No more typical wedding songs.
Many of the songs that we've heard and played so often at weddings, like the Electric slide, We Are Family, Macarena, Etc. aren't being requested as often.

- Trend #3: Less line dances.
Couples either love or hate these songs, as well as their guests. We only play line dance songs if they are requested, like the Cupid Shuffle, Electric Slide, Wobble, Etc.

- Trend #4: More variety and eclectic tastes.

Clients will ask for a wide variety of genres and eras. They might plan for Mumford & Sons during cocktail/dinner and then request 80s (which are coming back with couples asking for beforehand) for their parents.

- Trend #5: Unique first dance and father/daughter songs.
Some couples are even doing fun mash ups of 2 or more songs for them. While others are are doing classic/slower songs that transition into a surprise fun dance.

With your DJ making all your announcements, it's
important he/she is in sync with all vendors before MCing to avoid silence or confusion. Every minute costs, so your DJ has to stay on schedule for everyone.
- Tip: If you hire the right DJ, trust in their professionalism to play your "in between" songs.
Must plays and do not plays are great and necessary from the Bride & Groom, but not all guests have the same music preferences as them. Be sure to tailor your day to the ones that will be talking about it & enjoying it too.
