Trendy Tuesday: Catering

Happy September!

We have been chatting with some of the elite vendors in/around Charlotte to gather and share some tips and trends in the wedding world! Each Tuesday we will be sharing those with you.

CATERING

We spoke with Adam Smith and Laura Denhart at the talented Best Impressions on trends that they are seeing in the catering world with weddings. Here is what they had to say...

Food Design; Display/design is a huge aspect with clients and their weddings. We are seeing a lot less formal plated dinners and more and more unique stations/displays. It has become somewhat of an art with how food is displayed, bringing in decor and props such as wine crates, wooden slabs, fishing net, etc. to enrich the look and experience of the food.

Composed Plates; Another display trend is "composed plate stations." These are basically like tapas or mini meals. Rather than having a full dinner plate of one meat selection, one vegetable and one starch, clients are providing their guest with multiple stations that have different small plate pairings that complement each other. A little taste of everything!

Display Shelves; We are also seeing creative displays in the form of structures, rather than just tables. Food is being displayed and designed on shelves and/or walls! This allows guest to be interactive and is fun/entertaining for them. We've all seen those amazing donut and soft pretzel peg boards!

Food Options; As far as food selections, clients are looking for uniqueness, variety and creativity. We are seeing casual food requests, like slider stations or a taco bar, but with high-end garnishes and twists. Something every day that we all love but with a spin and different taste than your everyday food.

Seating; Limited seating is very popular right now. We are seeing a lot of mixed seating and design. A couple rounds, a couple banquets and a couple hightops scattered throughout the venue. This goes along with the unique stations, composed plate stations and display/interactive stations trend. Every guest doesn't need a place/seat with these designs, flow and atmosphere.

Specialty Drinks; Specialty drinks are and will always be here to stay! Yay! We still see His/Hers signature drinks at majority of weddings and Moscow Mules are currently the number one requests. However, once again - not your everyday Moscow Mule. Clients usually request a unique and funky twist to surprise their guest!

Thanks to Best Impressions for their Tips and Trends in the Wedding World!
